The first of the CitA Digital Transformation Series 2020
The first of the CitA Digital Transformation Series took place on Tuesday 4th February 2020 in the Wood Quay Venue in Dublin City Council. The workshop focused on the topic: Modern Methods of Construction.
It may have been a bitterly cold morning, but we received the warmest of welcomes at the CitA MMC workshop. Arthur O’Brien, Managing Director in C +W O’Brien Architects gave the opening address highlighting the current and expected growth in offsite modular citing international estimates, the commitment of the UK Government and the high levels of interest here at home.
Declan Wallace, CEO +Founder of Evolusion Innovation followed on from Arthur giving us all an insight into what MMC actually consists of, their differences between the offsite systems (we learned that there are seven categories), certification and most importantly of all… fire and sound testing.
Ross Griffin, Founder of KOSMOS spoke about the opportunities MMC through BIM will deliver savings through very early stage involvement by QS’s. Herve Besse, Director in Cogent Associates spoke about how MMC is defined, latest developments and comparisons with traditional build.
William Power, Director in C +W O’Brien Architects gave an “experience” based presentation discussing real projects, real system considerations and the future. Following a Q&A session, Barry McAuley, CitA/ TU Dublin gave the closing address, speaking of the bright and exciting future we all have with MMC. We certainly look forward to making it our future too.
